El articulo se divide en dos secciones. La primera es una aproximacion teorica sobre la nacion y el nacionalismo, la politica homogeneizadora del estado liberal y la importancia de construir una identidad nacional en Mexico. Posteriormente se senalan los mecanismos utilizados por el Estado mexicano para implantar la conciencia nacional entre la poblacion, las practicas civicas fomentadas desde la escuela y las relaciones que se establecen entre la historia nacional –difundida en la educacion basica– y la memoria cultural de los pueblos indigenas –reproducida oralmente. El texto concluye con una reflexion sobre la alquimia que se produce entre la construccion de la identidad nacional y los contenidos culturales locales. Abstract The article is divided into two sections. The first is a theoretical approach of the nation and nationalism, the homogenizing policies of the liberal state and the importance of building a national identity in Mexico. Then, the article identifies the mechanisms used by the Mexican government to establish the national consciousness among the population. The article also refers to the civic practices promoted by schools and the relationships established between national history –as spread in basic education– and the cultural memory of the indigenous people -produced orally. The text concludes with a reflection on the alchemy that occurs between the construction of national identity and the manifestations of local culture content.
